Principles of Manual Medicine

Welcome to the on-line, continuing medical education site at Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine. Extensive use of interactive simulations, animations, video, audio, and color graphics, help you to review, master, and retain basic anatomical and biomechanical knowledge necessary for the diagnosis of musculoskeletal dysfunction. Our objectives go beyond just providing you with a product that will enable you to obtain CME credits, we also want to immerse you in a unique learning experience that will expand your understanding of, and ability to use, manual medicine in your practice.

Educational Philosophy
We believe that frequent, one-on-one instruction is the most effective way to learn and incorporate OP&P/OMT into patient management. Unfortunately, this goal is not always easy to accomplish because of staff and budgetary constraints. Our on-line educational modules are intended to help you develop and sharpen skills in a cost effective manner by providing you with concise, comprehensive content essential to the mastery of the first two levels of achieving any competency; the knowledge-based elements of "Why do I want to do this?" and the practice-based elements of "How do I go about doing it?"

The following modes of distribution are being offered:

  • CME On Line -- Michigan State University's College of Osteopathic Medicine will award up to 56 hours of AOA approved, Category 1-B CME credits with a passing grade of 70%. Michigan State University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. You have free access to all the didactic content, paying only $22/CME credit when you are ready to take the graded exam. On-line registration is handled by MSU over a secure Web site. Help and Support is provided by the MSU IT Service Desk by calling 517-432-6200 (844-678-6200 toll free).
  • Greenman Video Series -- This multi-volume video series provides a comprehensive presentation of principles and concepts of manual medicine as they relate to diagnosis and treatment. This video series is intended to equip the medical practitioner with skills that can be utilized to restore maximal pain-free movement of the musculoskeletal system through the appropriate use of muscle energy, high velocity thrust, myofascial release, and functional techniques. Each of the volumes contains over 2 hours of material and is a "must have" for any health care professional with an interest in manual medicine.
