Left Superior Pubic Shear

Overview A direct action, muscle energy procedure for treating a left superior pubic shear.

Diagnosis

  • Position: Supine
  • Motion restriction: Left Superior Symphysis

Step 1 The operator slides the patient's pelvis to the left side of the table maintaining the left hip bone on the edge of the table. The patient is told to hold their right shoulder to maintain trunk stability.

Step 2 The operator's left hand stabilizes the right side of the patient's pelvis and the right hand is placed above the patella over the patient's distal left femur.

Step 3 The patient performs a seroes of three to five repitions of 3- to 5-second muscles contractions of hip flexion against the operator's right hand. With the patient's leg inan abducted and extended position, hip flexion activates the left adductor muscle group pulling the left symphysis inferiorly by concentric isotonic muscle contraction.

Step 4 After each patient effort, the operator engages the new barrier by additional left leg extension.

Step 5 We take up the slack and stabilize the distal femur.

Note Go back and reevaluate the pube to see if it is now level against the horizontal plane.
