Glossary of Terms
Facilitation -- The maintenance of a pool of neurons (eg. premotor neurons, motoneurons, or preganglionic sympathetic neurons in one or more segments of the spinal cord) in a state of partial or subthreshold excitation. In this state, lesser amounts of afferent input are required to trigger a discharge of impulses. Once established, facilitation can be sustained by normal central nervous system activity.
