Instructional Objectives -- Basic Concepts
After completing these materials you will:
- Be familiar with the diagnostic criteria that defines somatic dysfunction.
- Learn two conventions for naming somatic dysfunction.
- Understand the differance between a normal barrier to motion and a barrier that results from pathology.
- Review several types of pathology that may result in somatic dysfunction.
- Understand the differance between Type I (neutral), Type II (nonneutral), and Type III motion mechanics.
- Review important anterior and posterior landmarks that you will use during diagnosis and treatment.
- Be familiar with a conventional axis system used to describe motion in three-dimensional space.
- Briefly review the history and uniqueness of osteopathic medicine.
